I showed this to my mom and we were just laughing trying to imagine ourselves climbing that many stairs. A good ad campaign, I think.

At the age of 12 Mark Healey was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. If you are unaware Colitis is a is a disease that causes inflammation and sores, called ulcers, in the lining of the colon. Quite a struggle for someone so young. It is said 20% of people have know or are family with someone who carries this burden. Through the first few years Mark was blessed with long remissions of little to no inflammation. At the age of 17 Marks luck ran dry as his body built immunities to the countless drugs that had kept him healthy for years. On a routine bi annual checkup everything seemed fine a few minor concerns but no one could have predicted the next month of Marks life. He returned to school that day to eat lunch with his friends only to receive a phone call at the office from his parents. The results from the blood work that day showed his blood count was plummeting. He was rushed to C.H.E.O (Childrens Hospital Of Eastern Ontario) After Countless blood transfusions, Various medications. In the end Marks last option was to have his large intestine removed. Though it had seemed the disease had beaten him Mark had the last laugh. After Years of surgeries and struggles Mark has beaten Colitis. Now in his twenties Mark does his best to lead a normal life. He still lives with a few minor stuggles but is now cured. Sometimes stories are told from books, some that you hear from a friend. My name is Mark Healey and my story is told through my scars.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR SELF HARM

theirthroatsareopengravess:

My scars from last monday, 6 days ago, are fading. 8 new butterflies on my arms. 4 on both. 3 blue, 3 red, and 2 purple. Dad, Bubbles, Natalie, Camille, Alyssa, Kyle, Erykah, and Kayla; you guys are the people that come to my mind when I do this stuff. Thinking about how bad it hurts you and dissapoints all of you keeps me awake at night quite often. Road to recovery, here I come. Even if that means drawing 8 new butterflies 7 days a week, I’m ready.

I got my buccal swab kit in the mail today and it will be dropped in the mail tomorrow.
This is literally all it takes.  Four swabs and each takes about 10 seconds.  Is that really too much to ask?  I just hope that knowing that getting registered is this easy will cause some people to consider joining the registry.

Do I need to have some kind of mourning period for my old life before I can more forward?
